Sarnafil is made in Canton. I’m sure you could get some scrap from them.

In the middle of a (4) RTU job right now. The units we are doing are direct replacements using curb adapters as they are going on a good roof that we want to avoid dealing with,. The units are gas heat, no A/C. Low bid was $96K plus design and CA adding another $15k. But as you know and others have said its really based on so many details that can impact price. We aren’t pricing out light bulbs. Feel free to contact me directly for further information.
Good Luck,

You may be able to utilize a current asphalt bid in one of the Tritown’s. All towns have current bids for reclamation and paving.

I have seen this with Burnhams but have not seen it with Smiths. In the past we have handled this through our boiler insurance starting with a claim with MIAA / Travelers. Double check your how loop controls that you returns and supply do not have excessive delta T contributing to thermal shock.

In reply to: Installing LED light bulbs
May 21, 2019 at 3:10 pm #35616Bill,
Are you working with your electrical utility or independent? If you go through the utility I believe there is a procurement exemption that applies. The utility assigns a project expediter (PEX) and facilitates the install labor. Going through the utility can also provide on bill financing at 0% Regardless of how you deliver the work I encourage you to pilot the proposed lighting keeping focus on candle power existing at desk heights and candle power projected with the new lighting. Dimming yes or no is another consideration with LED. Additionally being piece meal volume work you will need to stay on top of electrical quality control as sometimes workmanship wiring can slide. Also be specific on led color that you want. I suggest piloting 3000K, 3500K and 4000K since LED color indexing is not a one for one with fluorescent and you don’t want any surprises 12000 bulbs later. Call me for more info, questions, etc.

December 9, 2018 at 1:32 pm #34761Denise,
Similar to others I have Home Depot and Grainger accounts for all my districts and accounts with several local True Value and Aubuchon hardware stores. With Home Depot I find you need to stay ahead of it as they don’t invoice you by transaction but manage it like a Visa with monthly settlements with the summary of purchases which makes it tricky if you are trying to separate by PO. Purchasing is one of our many hats.
Good Luck,

Thanks,

September 4, 2018 at 9:21 am #34137Overall pretty smooth. We also got hit with a power blip but without lasting issues. The weather ended up being more hype than a problem. The new reality with start up pre – Labor Day.

February 6, 2018 at 10:21 am #33243Ken,
Yes, our Superintendent and myself have had several conversations with MAAB about this. EWF is still allowed as a Fall Zone material but this would require separate access paths utilizing a different accessible material/construction if you wanted to continue the use of EWF. This is a big item as alternative systems will be 10X the $ of complete EWF Playgrounds. One of my Towns is overhauling 3 Playgrounds due to this, one is less then a year old.
Fun times.

In reply to: How are You Handling Record Cold? (Damage? inspections?)
January 2, 2018 at 4:00 pm #33154We run a building inspection program every year from early December through March for Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. It’s a 1X a day inspection using a formatted inspection report that’s sent to me for review on Mondays. When temps get into the singles or negatives I order 2X a day. Over the years it has proven to be effective and provides a little OT for the crew.
Good Luck,

January 2, 2018 at 3:53 pm #33153Steve,
Like others have said, I start with the manufacturers reps and go from there based on warranty or degree of difficulty with the repair. I use Ultiplay out of Uxbridge, M.E. O’Brien or Site Specifics out of Rochester, MA.
Good Luck,

In reply to: In house Maintenance or contract it out?
December 6, 2017 at 1:03 pm #33064I echo what James said. For me it’s a case by case basis based on the building, that staff’s abilities and the specifics of the job. With the complexities of building systems and the increasing workload and expectations I try and have the custodians focus on the janitorial service of the buildings. I have not had much luck expanding their technical or skilled trade abilities. I continue to work on expanding the license staff. With response and procurement I think the ideal is a balance between in house competency and contracted support.
