In reply to: State Board Of Appeals Rejects School Door Lock Proposal Again
March 4, 2024 at 2:59 pm #42174I received an email this week that I thought was relevant to this post and might be a low-budget solution. Please see below.
Hi Sandy,I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to share something with you, that I kind of “fell upon” at a site test the other day in a school. I was testing Panic Buttons with a client. As we proceeded to one of the middle schools, I pressed a button under the Administrative counter, and we waited. Nothing happened. I said the buttons aren’t working. The Client responded, did you hit the right button? The client has older school buildings and an older fire system and they were concerned that all of the fire doors may not release/close. They ran a button at the counter to the modules and the door hold open magnets. The button released all of the fire doors (and magnets) to close with the button under the Admin Counter.Obviously, I recommend that all Municipalities speak to the local AHJ, but—if an adversary should come into their building and they can hit that button, at least they will take away line of site down hallways (if configured that way), and force an adversary to fumble with opening a door. This would buy time. I deemed it “Slow Down” not lock down. Folks struggle with budgets. If this can be implemented it will help. I have shared it with two school districts that are now implementing it. One Principal was very very thankful for this information. Mass Facilities seems to be a good way to get out the word. Thanks!RegardsPamelaWith Gratitude…*Per GDPR Regulations, we do not grant any permission to use, store, share or sell this information. EMAIL pperini@

In reply to: (Unpaid) Furloughs, Layoffs and Pay During COVID? RESPONSES APPRECIATED!
April 27, 2020 at 10:56 am #36929- Is your organization still paying staff to mostly stay home (essentially paid furlough)? Yes. They do come in three days a week for about an hour or two to do a building check.
- Do you have any staff that are on unpaid furlough? No
- Have you had to layoff anyone? No
- Have your City/Town/School officials raised the possibility of layoffs or furloughs with you? No

In reply to: Grease Trap Maintenance (Above Floor, Under Sink Type)
January 16, 2020 at 8:14 am #36565Steve: We have included this in our septic contract. Grease traps are done monthly, art clay traps every 6 months and our septic once a year. Since we have done this it has eliminated many issues we were having with the traps.
Sandy Cashen, DYRSD
Yes, I have done this with my tanks for the last few years and are working on a plan so that we use the oil in the tanks so it does not become stagnant again.

We worked with them this summer. They were great – they worked the plan we had set up and were in and out in 3 days with no issues.

Our nurses check each month on the batteries, expiration dates of pads. If we need further assistance we ask our local fire departments to come in and help us out. They (fire departments)also take care of any supplies we might need.
