April 2, 2020 at 5:14 pm #36855Thanks for this information.
At the onset of school closure and social distancing, we were tasked with cleaning / sanitizing the entire facility. While everyone was allowed to go home to be safe we continued to work. After a brief conversation with my Superintendent about equity, he was supportive and allowed us to go home on paid Administrative leave once we completed the work of cleaning. This was a huge morale booster; as you all know, we never get treated the same as other departments. I set up a building and security check schedule and so this didn’t fall squarely on the shoulders of my crew, I put myself in the rotation for every Saturday and Sunday. Three office staff work 2-3 days per week to keep the money flowing so as part of this check, the main office gets a quick clean and wipe down and trash is removed. We are on call for any emergencies.
We are having trouble however with deliveries. Staff had previously ordered and/or continued to place orders after school closed and deliveries were coming with no one to receive them. They either didn’t have the forethought, or just didn’t care, about how the deliveries would be processed with no one there. I spent/am spending an inordinate amount of time trying to work with shipping outfits to get deliveries either held or scheduled for receipt.

In reply to: Linoleum vs. Rubber Flooring – Thoughts on Durability?
January 31, 2020 at 12:08 pm #36604Joe,
I had sheet vinyl flooring in my science labs circa 2002. Sheet material was brought up the wall to create a base molding. In 5 years it all cracked where the wall meets the floor as little to no filler was used. The floor overall took a beating from the chair glides and was tough to drymop on humid days. Against the advice of the architect, we ended up laying finish over it and treated it like a hard floor. Was much better after that as the finish took the abuse; this alleviated the sticking drymop issue as well. Not sure what rubber flooring you are looking at but I had the Nora rubber squares with the circles which became a headache. The installer may not have used correct adhesive as we couldn’t run any flat-beds or pallet jacks with weight over it without the tiles shifting and popping. I’m sure improvements have been made and the new products will hold up much better.

December 18, 2019 at 9:24 am #36502Hey Zeb~
I think you’ll find that a lot of the group are using SchoolDude successfully for work requests, facilities use, IT and PM work. I had it in my last District for years. It is a good system but they own you as you will need to budget annually for it. There were years I had to cut lines to keep it. To avoid the expense, I am using Google Forms now in this District. It’s a simple work order system but it’s free and I have the kids in the computer shop manage it for me.

I don’t accept cold calls. The secretaries routinely say that I am unavailable and ask for a business card from the vendor. The card is placed in my mailbox and I call, or don’t call, if there is an interest and as time allows.

August 14, 2019 at 5:36 pm #35874I installed them in the pre-school / kindergarten sections and boiler rooms. One Local Town official asked I install them in the boiler room as well. I also had to install them in a gymnasium once when an elementary school had an over-night reading /slumber party. Kids all slept on the gym floor. We used battery/plug in units from the Depot for this instance which seemed to satisfy everyone.

In reply to: Building Access
February 26, 2019 at 4:49 pm #34977The access is determined by the building principal.
One of my elementary schools has the old 4-digit keypad which allows 24-7 access. Total nightmare.
High School administration and custodians have 24 hour access. Teachers have 6am-4pm access. Coaches are restricted to locker rooms and gym and only have season-long access weekdays 2 pm – 9 pm and weekends 7 am – 3 pm
The other buildings administrators and custodians have 24 hour access. Faculty have 6 am – 6 pm weekday only access.
Maintenance has district-wide, 24-7, access.

In reply to: New Gym Floors with humidity control
January 29, 2019 at 10:57 am #34872George,
I have wood gym floors installed circa 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004. They were spec’d as a “floating floor” basically maple over a subfloor on slab with rubber bushings holding a constant gap between the slab and plywood sub. The floors have expansion joints throughout and around the perimeter. None of my gyms have humidity control. I was told by the flooring installer(s) to never put water on the floor so I cringed when we first started but, we now use an auto scrubbers to clean the floors. They are however used sparingly on all but the high school floor. On that floor, the auto scrubber is used before basketball games to ensure good grip for players or before events. To date, we have not had any issues with the floors using these methods.
