In reply to: Right to Know Training
July 25, 2023 at 11:15 am #41606Thanks Ken.
I need to provide training for 80 staff members spread over 3 shifts. This is why having the training on site or even better, online, would work best for us. I did reach out to DLS and they provided me with one vendor OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Keene State College. I was wondering if there are other providers. Thanks.
In reply to: Are You Installing Portable Air Filtration Units in Classrooms?
August 17, 2020 at 3:38 pm #38321- Aside from the Nurses Office and Isolation Rooms (DESE recoemmendation), are you planning to install Portable Air Filtration Units (HEPA filters) in any classrooms? YES
- If so, are you planning to install in ALL or Some classrooms. ALL (most)
- What criteria did you use for this decision – low MERV rating in filters? Number of air exchanges in a room.
Our mechanical consultant analyzed all our mechanical systems and came up with CFMs and air exchanges per typical room, gyms, libraries, etc. Now I am being asked to confirm that each room has what the report says in a typical room. Anyone knows any good balancers? Thanks.

In reply to: Air conditioning in schools
July 20, 2020 at 10:29 am #37227We installed window ACs two summers ago in all classrooms that didn’t have cooling. Now there is a debate should they be used due to COVID-19. I heard split units shouldn’t be used because they recycle air, but still waiting to hear about window units.

In reply to: Reporting Structure for Custodial Staff
March 9, 2020 at 11:12 am #36768Our collective agreement with AFSCME spells out that when schools are in session, all custodians are directly responsible to the Chief School Administrator. When not in session, they are responsible to Director of Facilities. Facilities department approves their timesheets, overtime, time off, etc. Some principals are hands on and some want nothing to do with custodians. Sometimes custodians try to defend their actions by telling us that principals wants them to do things differently or vice versa, but that doesn’t last long. Both principals and Facilities department discipline and hire employees together.

In reply to: 2 Hour Asbestos Awareness Custodial Training
February 13, 2018 at 10:16 am #33283Hi Maria,
I organized a 2 hour Asbestos Awareness training last August through Institute for Environmental Education out of Wilmington, MA. Due to the number of trainees (close to 80) and their shifts I had to do 3 sessions and each was $995. I hope this helps.Vedad
