      Glenn,

In Franklin the only employee’s allowed in school buildings when they are closed or without a custodian is the school principal. We do not let teachers have outside door keys so the only way in is their fob which will not work on weekends or Holidays. The safety of individual employee’s going into a large empty school can not be guaranteed without an on site custodian who knows where they are in the building and can check on them to make sure they get out OK. Our worst nightmare would  be for an employee to be in a building, fall and we find them on Monday when we open up. We consider it a safety issue.

          Mike,

If you click on the next button you will see the one we have used in Franklin to retrofit Halsey Taylor Fountains. They work great and we have put in dozens.

            Bob,

You already have the backup since you have 3 condensing boilers and if one goes down you still have 2. Your chance of losing your natural gas supply is slim to none. Get rid of the liability of having an oil tank and an oil burner. I have nineteen buildings in Franklin including 1 million sf of schools all on natural gas.

              Dave,

I spent a lot of time several years ago when this was first out and Enernoc was signing everybody up. What I found was I did not have the actual demand load I thought I had in any of my buildings. Backup generators are typically sized to carry 3 times your load to cover the spike created when a motor starts.

When Enernoc first started signing people up they would lie about your demand, but when you have an actual event and they monitor how much load you have shed they change the number and reduce the amount you get paid.

In the end it was not worth the hassle for how little you would actually get paid. In a school you are probably not able to just shut everything down to make a few bucks.

                Ed,

We use Halsey Taylor units. They make an add on bottle filler attachment that can easily convert your existing Halsey Taylor water cooler to a bottle filler also and save some money. We have at least 40 around Franklin and have not had trouble with any. They quickly became very popular in the middle schools where we piloted them first 6 or 7 years ago.

So when we opened our new High school in Franklin in 2014 we had decided in design that we would control student privliges with ID badges as well as staff. A High School staff member processes a photo ID for every freshman and they keep them for 4 years. Students have a set amount of area’s they can access and a time code with it. If they get to school late they need the badge to get in. The badge is also used for food service and checking out things from the library.

Teachers and staff all have badges with appropriate privelages ans well as police and fire with 24/7 access.

Roughly 2200 people have some type of access in the S2 system. The High School pays for student badges out of their budget. I pay for the rest.

In our Elementary schools parents in our after-school program have fobs so they can securely access the school in the very limited hours they need for pickup. As you know every swipe is recorded in the data base and there are cameras everywhere a fob is used. Pretty much every staff member has a fob. We do not issue outside door keys to anyone except Principals and Facility staff.

They are used in all town buildings as well.

We have a staff member that does a lot of the entering and issuance of new fobs.

I just had padding installed around a court in a Rec Center we built. It was done by New England Athletic Solutions, Brian Noyes Tel 508-958-7326. He did a great job!

                        Steve,

I had a handicapped kid at one of my Elementary schools that could not get around very well on the wood chips. We put in a poured in place walkway to the main access points. That cost me 16K. I am working on a couple new playground designs right now and doing a whole playground is between 50k to 70K.

                          Jim,

Greenwood has worked directly for me and as a filed sub when we did our new high school. I would only have good things to say about them. I recommend them.

We use State Contract Carpet Co. and they are on the State Vendor list. The are very good with scheduling and reliability.
