In Hudson the IT department is responsible for all of the hardware, computers, projectors, audio/visual devices, VOIP systems etc. and budgets accordingly. If there are any new installations or replacements we will assist. Since they are not licensed for even low voltage if they need any wiring done we handle all of that and their people don’t have to be fishing wires in ceilings and walls that we would have to repair later.

Paul,
Go to everase.com. We’ve been using their “peel and stick” film for a few years now. We’ve got it down to a science and even make our own whiteboards out of tempered masonite, now. We can custom fit a board into a specific area. The other advantage to Everase is there is no ghosting after long use or marker being left on too long. It ain”t cheap but it’s still a lot cheaper than store bought boards and much more versatile.

May 1, 2018 at 9:37 am #33736Eric,
You have more to worry about with an underground tank. As long as you have a two-stage system and your oil company delivers a cold weather oil you won’t have gelling. We never had any issues with our 10,000 gallon above ground at our high school that opened in 2003. Have it engineered and go with a good monitoring system.

January 1, 2018 at 1:16 pm #33145Joe,
In Hudson we are doing building checks. The custodians have been instructed to not just to a “walk by” down the hallways but to go in each room and check the univents. We also tweaked the BMS so that the buildings remain in “occupied” and we keep the circulators running with the zone valves open 20/15%. Thats my story and I’m sticking to it!

December 13, 2017 at 12:16 pm #33107Mike,
DO NOT let them talk you into sheet marmoleum. Fifteen years ago when we built our high school the architect spec’d marmoleum for the cafeteria and the job supervisor came to a construction meeting and told us not to let them put it in. He warned that we would be tearing it up in 3 to 5 years. The architect raved about it being used in malls and shopping centers and how versatile it was, colors, welded seams, blah blah blah. (Pre-MSBA so we lost the argument.) It started bubbling up after 4 years. We patched it for 8 more years and finally replaced it with porcelain tiles and never looked back. So much easier to maintain and looks better.

My first question would be what systems do you have in your other schools and are you happy with them? If so, ask your engineer to request that. The state is very supportive when it comes to “or equal”. If you can justify rejecting one manufacturer over another you and your building committee just have to stick to your guns.
It’s too late for your current project now but something to keep in mind is proprietary specifications. Here in Hudson before pencil touches paper for design the school committee votes on proprietary specs for intrusion/access alarms, building automation system and sometimes fire alarm panels. That way we don’t end up with 5 different vendors/systems in 5 different schools but it has to be voted on before the project commences.
Good luck with your project.Wayne Miller, Hudson Public Schools

Sorry I don’t have an answer for you but have you tried calling some local millwork shops like Wayland Millwork or Littleton Lumber? They have dust collectors and maybe they know someone.
Good Luck,

June 14, 2017 at 1:44 pm #32519Jason,
We’ve used Garland’s White Knight product on several of our roofs with great success. Just be aware that it is VERY slippery when it’s wet. We bought some bags of aggregate from them to spread on it when it is wet. That works very well. If you are having it done by outside contractors make sure that you tint the first coat just a little otherwise you could be paying for something that you didn’t get.
Call us if you want.
