In reply to: Snow and Comp time
July 11, 2017 at 9:26 am #32587Comp Time? A snow day is and always has been a regular work day for us. We are a little more lenient about their start/end time but it is a regular work day.
The question has come up about when the Governor declares a “State of Emergency” and that is a regular work day as well UNLESS he states there is a travel ban then it’s a “free” day off. When there is a travel ban I have the in-town guys come in for overtime just to do a building check. My guys worked during Super Storm Sandy! The only free days I remember in recent history was the lock down situation when the Marathon bombers were shooting up Watertown.

Newton Public SchoolsIn reply to: Modular buildings
July 5, 2017 at 11:07 am #32575Bill,
The upside is they can be move around the district to be used at different locations. We have a set at a third location and I am thinking that’s their final resting point because they are stressed after initial delivery and two moves.
One of the expensive things we found out was that if you attach them to a building that is not sprinkled you have to sprinkle the entire original building.Good Luck,

NB is the parent company for Boston Mechanical. My direct experience in the field is with BMS, although NB did the HVAC at North. If they’re looking at BMS, here goes.
Boston Mechanical has been our HVAC service contractor since 07/01/2017. Since that time, they have performed over 700 work orders. With minor exceptions, work was completed in a timely manner without callback. They have qualified technicians experienced in all aspects of boiler, air handler, exhaust, UV, and VAV maintenance and repair. They also are proficient in DDC and, to a lesser extent, pneumatic control. Response time to emergency and off-hours issues has been excellent. Job tracking and billing was an issue early on, but has improved recently.Hope this helps,

April 12, 2017 at 7:05 am #32301Tony,
We also charge for multiple events in the same building at the same time. For example if at Newton North we have a basketball game, theater production, night school and girl scout meeting all at the same time that would be four detailed custodians working(?)in addition to the regular shift custodians. It is excessive but part of their union contract.

Newton Public SchoolsIn reply to: School Dude Price Increase for Municpal Buildings?
January 24, 2017 at 6:28 am #29659Joe,
In Newton we always had two SchoolDude accounts, one for Schools and one for Parks and Recreation. We were told the same “Microsoft” story that Ken talks about and they moved our Parks and Recreation Department to Facility Dude.
